Wet scrubber systems

Hazardous extract, made safe before it leaves the building

Caldera designs, fabricates and commissions wet scrubbers for chemical process and odour control. Our speciality is the compact end of that range — scrubbers sized for fume cupboards, where the plant room is small, the duty is real and the equipment still has to perform on every cycle.

What we do

We build the equipment that stands between a process and the air outside it

A wet scrubber puts contaminated air in intimate contact with a scrubbing liquor, so that the contaminant transfers out of the gas and into the liquid. Get the chemistry, the contact area and the residence time right and a soluble gas is very largely gone before the stack.

Getting those three right for your process — not a catalogue duty — is the job. We size from first principles against your gas composition, flow and discharge requirement, then build the machine that does it.

How we build a system

  • Sized from first principles against your gas, flow and discharge condition.
  • Designed, fabricated, wired and wet-tested by one party.
  • Materials chosen for the chemistry — polypropylene, PVDF, GRP or stainless.
  • pH and ORP control that holds the duty between services.
  • Interlocked with the extract fan, and reported to your BMS.
  • Commissioned with a signed record of setpoints and readings.
Where we concentrate

Compact scrubbers for fume cupboards

A fume cupboard protects the person standing at it. It does not treat anything — everything it captures is still in the ductwork. Where the discharge cannot go out untreated, a scrubber is what closes that gap, and it has to do it in whatever space the building has left.

That is the duty we have built the business around: a full counter-current packed bed, sump, dosing and controls, on a footprint that fits through a doorway.

From a 700 × 700 mm footprint

Skid-mounted and split for access where the plant room demands it.

200 – 3,000 m³/h

One to four cupboards on a single unit, sized on your actual face velocities.

Dosing that holds the chemistry

pH measured continuously and reagent dosed to setpoint, so removal does not drift.

Interlocked with the extract

Lose liquor flow and you know — at the panel, at the BMS and at the cupboard.

Applications

Where these systems work

Different industries, one problem: something in the extract that cannot go out as it is.

Laboratories and research

Fume cupboard and containment extract in universities, hospital and analytical laboratories. Aggressive but low-volume duties, often in a building that was never designed around a plant room.

Pharmaceutical and fine chemicals

Reactor vents, solvent recovery vents and dispensary extract, where the contaminant list is long and the validation expectation is high.

Semiconductor and electronics

Wet bench and etch extract carrying hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and nitric acid fume, where segregation of incompatible streams matters as much as removal.

How it works

From a duty to a commissioned system

One party from the first survey to the signed commissioning record. There is no point in the chain where the process design and the machine that has to deliver it belong to different people.

The full process

01

Duty and survey

We start with the gas: composition, concentration, flow, temperature and the discharge condition you have to meet. Where the extract already exists, we measure it rather than take the drawing at face value.

02

Process design and sizing

Bed depth, liquid-to-gas ratio, reagent chemistry, velocity and pressure drop are calculated against that duty. You get a datasheet with the numbers on it, not a model number.

03

Fabrication

Vessels, tanks and pipework are fabricated in polypropylene, PVDF, GRP or stainless as the chemistry requires, with the control panel built and wired alongside.

Tell us what is in the extract

Send us the gas, the flow and the discharge condition you have to meet. We will tell you what will work, what it will take out, and what it will not — before anyone talks about price.
